Jonathan Ulens from SK Munkzwalm, who played youth football with Kevin De Bruyne, scored eleven goals in a crushing 17-1 win against Sp.Sint-Niklaas.
One of the most bizarre football matches took place in Belgium over the weekend. SK Munkzwalm played against Sp.Sint-Niklaas in the Competitie 1'provinciale, where the home team won 17-1. Jonathan Ulens, a player on the home team, scored an incredible 11 goals in the game.
Ulens said that everything he touched turned into a goal. He scored his first four goals within eight minutes of the game:
“On the first deep ball I sprinted forward and hit the ball with my left. My first four ball contacts went straight in.” he told Sporza.be.
Although Ulens scored 11 goals, he also gave three assists and attributed the team's success to their collective effort: “It’s of course the merit of the entire team that we just keep going for it. I scored 11 times but also gave 3 assists.”
“I learned it all from the best"
As a youth player, Ulens played together with one of the best footballers in the world; Kevin De Bruyne. Maybe he learned a trick or two from the founder of the KDB Cup?
“I learned it all from the best. I played in the youth series of K.A.A Gent for three years together with Kevin De Bruyne.”
Despite his success and his goals going viral on social media, Ulens remains humble and committed to his job as a window and door installer:
"You have to do a job all your life, but if there were a top football offer, I would consider it." he ends.
After the win, Munkzwalm are now ranked sixth in the league. Meanwhile, Sp.Sint-Niklaas are at the bottom with 0 points and a goal difference of 15/93.
