KETO DIET
The #ketodiet is the talk right now in nutrition. Since I have been around the industry awhile, many have not yet realized how these cycles go. It's like the development of maturity as an adult (not that all of us get there, I am still pretty much a 4 year old??????).
As adolescents in our nutrition knowledge we are very dogmatic & narrow minded. We think our way is the only way for everyone.
Then we reach our nutritional mid-twenties & graduate to the nutritional seeker mentality. At this point we realize our way may not be the best, and now are on a mission to find what is. We think science has all the answers. As a result of that, we simply "follow the evidence base." But because so few people actually have the expertise to read & interpret the original studies, we rely on our favorite guru blogger or author to tell us. This is when nutritional teams & camps pop up. "I am vegan and protein will kill you. Sprout Head Sammy said so." "Well he is wrong because Paleo Pauly said grains will eat your gut away. Didn't you read his latest book?" and on it goes.
Of course we also don't recognize that research comes in phases. Someone makes a new discovery about a ketodiet and a bunch of other researchers pursue that work. We are also humans, and have a natural mental glitch that can make us weigh new novel concepts higher than older more well known concepts.
Finally some reach nutritional maturity where we realize nutrition & health is both art and science. We see that we are each unique metabolically, psychologically & in our personal preferences. We acknowledge these differences & play metabolic detective with the emerging info of nutrition & metabolism to find what works for us.
Short-term results are easy. Millions of people have lost 10, 20 or 30 pounds the last several weeks. And they are all using the current nutritional flavors of the month; keto & intermittent fasting. No judgment, I use these approaches at different times during the year too. But what matters is what works over the long run. That requires more than bandwagon nutrition. Can what you’re doing be sustained as a lifestyle? If not, find & do what can be! #nextlevelhuman
