Customers really can help us to make a real difference to the way we do things; they can help shape, change and influence what we do and how we do it.
They can do a great job of telling us how we’re doing and also, importantly, what needs improving. We just need to make sure we really learn from what we see and hear.
Investing time into building genuine relationships with your customers can have huge benefits.
Engaging with customers can help come up with recommendations to improve services and neighbourhoods.
The creation of a more consistent customer experience can help to build trust in your organisation.
Opening up a two-way communication route is especially important, as it is very difficult to assess your relationship with customers in a meaningful way without gathering feedback from them.
You have to make sure you create communication channels for your customers to feedback information to you.
But, if you’re not prepared to listen to what your customers are telling you and act on what they say, this feedback will mean nothing. Being able to show that you have listened and are taking action based on what they have said can make a customer’s opinion feel validated and valued.
A conscious drive towards forging a customer partnership offers the highest, longest-term rewards for both the customer and the business.
This is because unless an organisation already sees things from the point of view of its customers, it can require an enormous imaginative leap in order to change from an organisation-centred approach to a customer-centred one.
So, don't be a monkey and hear, see and speak with your customers!
