Kerala's Growing Trend: Moving to Canada and Australia

I recently took part in a forum where we chatted about the growing trend of people from Kerala moving to Canada and Australia in search of brighter futures.

One of the most interesting things that came up was how people are drawn to Canada and Australia because of the promise of better opportunities. It doesn’t matter whether it’s for higher education, job prospects or an overall better quality of life – these countries have so much to offer!

One of my lovely forum members mentioned that the quality of education in Canada is absolutely top-notch! The wonderful universities of Toronto and McGill are known all over the world. And there’s more! The post-graduation work permit is a huge advantage for international students.

Another lovely person added, “Australia’s job market is booming, especially in sectors like healthcare, engineering, and IT.” "The work-life balance there is something we can only dream of here in Kerala."

It's so great to see that education is becoming a popular route for immigration! Lots of students are choosing to study abroad with the hope of eventually settling in these countries. The whole discussion was filled with wonderful stories of students who took this path and are now enjoying successful careers.

One lovely lady shared, "I went to Canada for my master's, and it was such a life-changing experience." "Not only did I get a great education, but I also got to work part-time and gain valuable experience. Now, I have a stable job and am on my way to getting permanent residency."

Similarly, an Australian student shared, "Studying in Australia was the best decision I ever made. The education system is incredibly supportive of international students, and there are plenty of scholarships available. Plus, the PR pathways are pretty straightforward if you meet the criteria."

The Influence of Advertising

It's so easy to be influenced by all the lovely ads we see promoting study and immigration opportunities! These ads are placed in really clever spots to catch the eyes of young people and their families, and they really do have a big impact on their choices.

"It's so interesting how everywhere you look, there are ads about studying in Canada or Australia," said one participant with a smile. "It's a thriving industry, with coaching centres and visa consultants springing up all over the place." They paint a very lovely picture, and for many, it seems like the best way to get a better future.

Another parent made a great point: “These ads often highlight success stories and offer attractive packages, making it hard to resist.” It’s so important to do your research and not just take what you’re told at face value.

The Reality Check

It's so tempting to pack your bags and move to Canada or Australia! But before you do, it's really important to have a reality check. It's true that not everything is as easy as it looks in the ads. There are some challenges to be aware of.

“It can be tough to adapt to a new country,” a recent Australian visitor warned. "The first few months can be a bit tough, from finding somewhere to live to getting used to a different culture. It’s so important to be prepared for the challenges that come your way.

Another girl shared her experience, saying, “I moved to Canada thinking it would be a bed of roses, but the reality was different.” The weather was pretty tough, and it took a little longer than I expected to find a job in my field. But with a little bit of persistence and the right kind of support, everything eventually fell into place!

Financial Considerations

We totally get it. Moving abroad is a big financial step, and it's so important to think about all the costs involved. From tuition fees to living expenses, it can all get pretty pricey!

A consultant gave some great advice: "It's really important to have a clear financial plan." The cost of living in cities like Toronto or Sydney is pretty high, so it can be tough to manage without proper budgeting.

Another consultant had a great tip: look for scholarships and part-time job opportunities! Luckily, lots of students find ways to make ends meet by working part-time while studying.

The Role of Family and Community

It's so important to have the love and support of your family and community when you're making the big decision to move abroad! It was so lovely to hear how many participants felt that having a really solid support system is so important when you’re living in a new country!

"My family was so supportive of my decision to study in Australia," one of them shared with a smile. "They were a huge help with the finances and stayed in touch regularly, which made the transition so much easier."

Another middle-aged man added, “It was such a blessing to find a community of fellow Keralites in Canada.” It really helped me feel less homesick and gave me a lovely network of support.

The Impact on Kerala

It's not just the people who move abroad who are affected. The trend of moving abroad has an impact on Kerala as well. While it sadly leads to some of our brightest minds leaving Kerala, it also brings back valuable experiences and remittances that contribute to the local economy.

"It's so sad to see so many talented individuals leaving Kerala for better opportunities," a participant noted. "It's a real shame that so many talented individuals are leaving Kerala for better opportunities. But on a positive note, the remittances sent back home help support families and boost the local economy."

Another lovely person added, “Those who come back bring new skills and ideas, which can help Kerala in the long run.” It’s a double-edged sword, but with the right policies, it can be a win-win situation!

The Future of this Trend

It's so lovely to see that the trend of moving to Canada and Australia is still going strong! With the world becoming more connected and with so many exciting new opportunities opening up, more and more people from Kerala are looking at all the possibilities.

"It's only natural that people want to see what else is out there beyond their own borders, especially with the world becoming more and more connected," says an expert. "Canada and Australia will always be great places to live because they're so welcoming and have a high quality of life."

Another student added, “It’s so important to stay informed and make well-researched decisions.” I’m sure the trend will evolve, but I truly believe that the desire for a better future will always drive people to explore new horizons.

Final Thoughts

The lovely folks on that forum shared so much about why they were considering or had already moved to Canada and Australia from Kerala, as well as the challenges and experiences they were facing. It's so understandable! The allure of better opportunities, quality education and a higher standard of living are powerful drivers. It’s so important to approach this decision with realistic expectations and thorough research.

If you're thinking about making this move, it's really important to take the time to understand both the amazing opportunities and the challenges that come with it. It's a great idea to connect with people who have already made the transition. And don't be afraid to seek advice from multiple sources! Just remember, the journey might be tough, but with the right preparation and support, it can lead to a fulfilling and rewarding future. So, what are your thoughts on this trend? Have you or someone you know moved abroad for better opportunities?
