The Kerala Boy

The Kerala Boy

It all started as a joke. Mufeed VH a 21-year-old boy from Kerala tweeted “Devin this Devin that…. who wanna build Devika, the first ever open-source AI software engineer?” as a joke and expected people to react to it with laughing emojis but instead things took a turn and he started getting loads of DM saying, “hey I wanna join you on this project”, “I want to work on this project”, “I’m interested”.

He was blown away by the amount of DMs he received. For instance, he thought, it would be funnier if he just built one and put it out there in the open-source. And you know the rest. He actually built the Devika AI demo within 20 hours, to be honest, it’s pretty great.

But why did Mufeed build Devika when a master like Devin was already in the market? Although this started as a joke, he wanted to build an Agentic AI Software Engineer who could understand high-level human instructions and break them down into simple steps, research relevant information, and write code to achieve the given objective. On top of this, he wanted Devika to be a competitive open-source alternative to Devin.

Besides building Devika this young man has built various projects such as code2prompt, binserve, and moonwalk. He has also participated in a bug bounty program to secure companies like Google, and Mastercard. While I was delving deep into his portfolio I was surprised by the fact that he won the gold medal at the Indianskills Nationals in Cyber Security.

I believe Mufeed is an inspiration to all the youngsters out there to just keep going. Something that started as a joke ended up being a great competition to Devin. This is your sign to keep exploring and trying new projects and staying updated on the recent events and launches of the industry. Lastly, as an entrepreneur I can say this with all my experience on the table, an idea is absolutely nothing without execution and nothing is silly.
