Kenyan Ecosystem Students Inspired by US STEM Learning Tour

STEM learning expanded some boundaries this summer as 11 Kenyan learners who are STEM ambassadors in their schools traveled to the United States. They were part of an international Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Learning Tour. The tour, whose theme was “Building a Resilient Transport System of the Future”, aimed to inspire and empower the ambassadors in STEM pathways and careers. Third Derivative and RMI Launch Industrial Innovation Cohorts to Accelerate Decarbonization of Steel, Cement, and Chemicals

Third Derivative and RMI are launching Industrial Innovation Cohorts to accelerate decarbonization in cement, steel, and chemicals industries, supported by a $2 million Lemelson Foundation grant. The initiative aims to bridge innovation gaps in these carbon-intensive sectors by providing startups with resources, market insights, and industry connections. Applications for the cohorts, which will support 5-10 climate tech startups each, open on August 26 and close on October 26, 2024.

Advanced Technological Education (ATE) I NSF

The ATE program focuses on educating technicians for high-technology fields that drive the nation's economy. It emphasizes two-year colleges and involves partnerships between academic institutions and industry. The program supports curriculum development, professional development of college faculty and secondary school teachers, career pathways, and other activities.

Eligibility: Two-year colleges, Four-year colleges and universities, K-12 school systems, Non-profit organizations, For-profit organizations

Award: $75,000 - $7,500,000 per project (varies by project type)

Growth Opportunities (Round 5) - FOA-ETA-24-06 I U.S. Department of Labor, Employment & Training

This program prepares justice-involved youth and young adults for employment through education, training, paid work experiences, mentorship, and leadership development. It aims to introduce and prepare participants for the world of work, help them identify career interests and gain skills, and provide income to start them on a path to living wages. The program also contributes to community violence intervention among youth and young adults.

Eligibility: County governments, City or township governments, Special district governments, Independent school districts, Native American tribal governments (Federally recognized), Native American tribal organizations (other than Federally recognized tribal governments), Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS (other than institutions of higher education), Nonprofits without 501(c)(3) status with the IRS (other than institutions of higher education)

Award: Approximately $85,000,000 to fund approximately 28 grants. Award ranges: Up to $2,000,000 for direct applicants and up to $5,100,000 for intermediary applicants.

Kenya high school students are invited to participate in the Real World Design Challenge, an international high school competition where student work in teams to design an Uncrewed Aircraft System (UAS).
