Kenya Wants Reparations From Britain. Will It Be The First Among Many?
A group of Kenyans who were expelled from their land by British invaders during colonial rule filed a case against the UK on Tuesday at the European Court of Human Rights to seek compensation of $200 billion.
Their lawyer accused the UK of avoiding the issue and not taking any action for years which is why the issue was brought to the European Court of Human Rights.
You would think that the Council of Europe probably wouldn't pursue this case since several European countries would likely be sued for imperialism/colonialism of Indigenous nations soon after.
In saying this, some European countries have been calling for Russia to pay reparations for its imperialist invasion and ongoing colonialism of Ukraine since 2014 (the annexation of Crimea & current war).
In my opinion, many people are right to be concerned about the invasion of Ukraine and the idea of reparations seems fair. Common sense tells us that Russia should have to pay for the costs of invading Ukraine.
But at the same time, what's good for the goose is good for the gander.
