Kenya Utalii College Governing Council Chairman, Hon. David Wamatsi today hosted the Zambia Minister for Tourism, Hon. Rodney Sikumba. Hon. Sikumba was accompanied by Her Excellency Joyce K. Kasosa, Zambia High Commissioner to Kenya and Mr. Perry Siame, Vice Chairperson Governing Council, Zambia Institute for Tourism and Hospitality Studies.?
Kenya Utalii College (KUC) is collaborating with the Zambia Institute for Tourism & Hospitality Studies (ZITHS) following??the signing of an MOU between Kenya and Zambia in June of 2022. Hon. Wamatsi and Hon. Sikumba discussed areas of collaboration for the mutual benefit of the respective institutions. Areas of collaboration include staff exchange, student exchange, student internships, curricula development and training, staff development, joint research, joint resource mobilisation and joint publication.
Zambia aims to empower and enhance hospitality and tourism training especially to its youth. “We are very keen on training our young people and produce a cadre of professionals into the hospitality and tourism sector and we look forward to partnering with Kenya Utalii College on this”, said Hon. Sikumba. He applauded Kenya Utalii College’s success story, terming it one of the best in Africa. “Kenya Utalii College’s story is a success, one which should be emulated across the continent”.?He made his comments following a presentation by the Principal & CEO, Prof. Charles Musyoki. The Principal & CEO highlighted the College’s role as a specialized training institution for the hospitality and tourism industry. He highlighted the competency-based nature of the programmes whose emphasis is skills development.
Hon. Wamatsi said the Governing Council was working towards increasing the College’s capacity to meet the high demand for its courses. A key area he noted was more partnerships with other institutions in Africa. He further said the Governing Council was also keen to establish partnerships internationally. He was accompanied by Governing Council Members, Ms. Jane Adam, Mr. Robert K. Kamiti and Mr. Bryan Waruhiu. The Chairman also said Kenya Utalii College looked forward to the partnership with the ZITHS so as to develop skills especially among the young people.?

Hon. Sikumba thereafter took a tour of the facilities which included the laboratories for Housekeeping and Laundry, Food and Beverage Service & Sales, Food Production and Utalii Hotel.?

1 年Kenya Utalii College has embarked on an aggressive global branding strategy Through its strategic pillar of collaborations and partnerships ,the college is reaching out to international partners to enhance the global positioning of the premier hospitality and tourism training institution . Efforts on this front have started bearing fruit. Global cruise lines such as Royal Carribbean cruises, MSC cruises, Virgin voyage cruises and Vikings have all come calling to enter into working arrangements with the college. The net effect is the presence of our alumni in crew of these cruise firms. GR8 from Jersey island in the United Kingdom has recruited many graduates of the school through partnerships. Highlands College from Jersey Island has also joined the list of international partners. Affiliations to internal bodies such as United Nations World Tourism Organisation, Euhofa and Hosco have raised our profile as global institution. I commend the college leadership for prioritizing partnerships and collaborations. We live in a global village which is highly connected.
