[Kenya] CBK Licenses 7 More Digital Credit Providers
The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has issued operating licenses to 7 new Digital Credit Providers (DCPs). This now brings the total number of licensed DCPs in Kenya to 58.
The new credit providers licensed are UbaPesa,?Stride Credit, Senti Capital, Progressive Credit, Payablu Credit, Mogo Auto and Mint Credit.
CBK says it has engaged other regulators and agencies pertinent to the licensing process, including the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner. Read more.
Access Now condemns recent internet disruption in Kenya
Access Now and the #KeepItOn coalition have condemned the the recent disruption of internet access and increased crackdown on the people of Kenya amid protests over the controversial Finance Bill 2024.
In a statement, the two said the disruption was a major step backwards for Kenya, which has previously been an important stronghold against shutdowns in the region. Read more.
Fintech firm Pyypl joins forces with Visa to drive financial inclusion in Africa
Pyypl, the Middle East and Africa (MEA) fintech has announced a partnership with to?issue virtual and physical Visa cards through its mobile application, directly to its users.
Pyypl said in a statement on Monday that the agreement further recognises the licence approval process in other markets that it is entering.? Read more.
dLocal secures remittance services partnership with KCB Bank
dLocal KCB Partnership: More than a year after securing payment service provider licences from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Uruguayan-born payments company dLocal has now finalized a partnership agreement with the Kenyan Commercial Bank (KCB).
KCB Bank’s approval of dLocal’s submission for a money remittances flow allows the free flow of money wire transfers through the country’s official banking system. Read more.
