Kenya to benefit from initial $16.2m ITU broadband mapping project

Kenya is among the 11 African countries set to benefit from an initial $16.2 million budget for Africa’s National Broadband Mapping Systems project.

This announcement was made on the sidelines of the recently concluded Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-24) hosted in Kampala, Uganda by The Imternational Telecommunication Union (ITU).?

The project, supported by the European Commission will help establish broadband mapping systems to foster investment and digital transformation in Africa.?

ITU said in a statement that the project will use the data from the mapping systems to identify internet connectivity gaps in coverage, quality and affordability in countries covered by the project. It will initially benefit 11 countries: Benin, Botswana, Burundi, C?te d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.? Read more.

Huawei to train additional 150,000 people in Sub-Saharan Africa by 2027

Huawei has announced plans to train an additional 150,000 talents in Sub-Saharan Africa over the next three years. The plan comes on top of the ICT leader’s initial goal to equip over 100,000 people in the region with digital skills by 2025.

Huawei has already exceeded its initial goal by 120%, 10 months ahead of schedule, training over 120,000 individuals over the past 26 months. Read more.
