Red to Green from Nairobi to Amsterdam

Kenya Airways joined other 16 airlines in The Sustainable Flight Challenge (TSFC) presented by SkyTeam from the 1st to the 14th of May 2022, with?KQ operating a long-haul flight from Nairobi to Amsterdam. The aim of the challenge,?was to gauge how best airlines can operate flights in a more sustainable manner.

TSFC is a competition designed to challenge the aviation industry by stimulating and accelerating innovation, change and bringing some of the aviation industry players together through a friendly competition, inspired by the great Melbourne to London aviation races of 1934, which generated many changes to international travel.

The Aircraft

Kenya Airways operated the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft for The Sustainable Flight Challenge. Featuring advanced technologies, this highly efficient aircraft provided better fuel efficiency of up to 20 percent compared to other long-haul aircrafts.

Carbon Offset

Passengers on this flight had the opportunity to participate directly in offsetting the Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions related to their flight to Amsterdam through the voluntary Carbon offsetting tool. The amount collected will be used to support environmental sustainability initiatives projects that have been qualified by IATA as being credible enough to contribute to positive impact on sustainability.

Travelling Light to Reduce Weight

Passengers on this flight were encouraged to travel light as part of the airline's sustainability long-term plan in influencing change behavior for the airline and our guests.

Sustainable Catering

We worked closely with our catering partner to develop a special organic menu with locally sourced products for all our guests on board.

Optimized Operations

Kenya Airways has put in place various fuel efficiency initiatives to reduce carbon emissions in our operations including flight dispatch, flight operations, maintenance & engineering.

Partnership: KQ and Africa World Airlines

Kenya Airways?has signed an interline agreement with Africa World Airlines to Ghana and West Africa. This will enable our customers access increased options in the domestic destinations in Ghana (Kumasi, Takoradi, and Tamale) and four regional destinations - Lagos and Abuja in Nigeria, Freetown in Sierra Leone, and Monrovia in Liberia.

The partnership is part of our bigger strategy to extend our presence across the continent and underpins our commitment to providing greater connectivity and market access in the West African region and across Africa. We currently fly you x3 weekly from?Accra, Ghana?to Nairobi.

Events

9th Africities Summit

Kenya Airways?participated in the 9th edition of the Africities Summit in Kisumu, Kenya.??The conference themed, “The Role of African Intermediary Cities in the Implementation of the United Nations Agenda 2030 and the African Union Agenda 2063”.?

The event?attracted approximately 10K Delegates most of whom KQ offered special discounted flight tickets into Kisumu, to discuss various issues among them, local governance and development and the contribution of local governments towards the integration of Africa.???

U.S.A. Memorial Day

On the 30th of May, the United States commemorates it's military heroes who devoted to serve in the armed forces.?Kenya Airways joins in this event in remembrance and honor of these soldiers who earned undying gratitude,?by offering our customers up to 25% off flight tickets.
