Kelsey Collection Headlines 1,500 Collector Cars on Offer at Mecum Dallas Sept. 4-7
Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center to Transform into Auction Action Hub for Enthusiasts?
WALWORTH, Wis. – Aug. 28, 2024 – Headlining an estimated 1,500 vehicles to be auctioned at Mecum’s upcoming Dallas 2024 classic and collector car auction is a group of highly elusive prewar rarities and more from moguls of the classic tire industry dubbed The Paul L. Kelsey, Kelsey Antique Auto Museum collection. Led by a holy grail 1914 Stutz 4E Bearcat (Lot F89) that has been owned by the Kelsey family for 72 years and a 1933 Auburn 12-165 Salon Speedster (Lot F88) that is one of just five known to exist, the Kelsey collection includes more than 50 museum-found cars that have been tucked away from the public eye for three decades. This Sept. 4-7, the large majority of the collection will hammer sold in Dallas at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center at absolute no reserve in front of consignors, bidders and spectators, along with hundreds of other high-quality collector vehicles.?
Following three successful auctions in a span of five weeks from mid-July through Mecum Monterey 2024 during Monterey Car Week with sales totaling well over $100 million, Mecum returns to the DFW Metroplex for the 14th consecutive year following $46 million in sales at Mecum Dallas 2023 from more than 1,400 consignments.?
This year’s Dallas auction will boast the variety Mecum is known for with a lot more than Kelsey’s coveted prewar antiquities leading the charge. Other highlights include vintage muscle cars like a very rare factory-air 1968 Shelby GT500KR Convertible (Lot S223) with a matching-numbers 428 CI Cobra Jet V-8 engine offered at no reserve and an award-winning 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback (Lot S159). Modern sports cars will also be present in Dallas featuring top-shelf choices like a 2021 McLaren 720S Coupe (Lot F114) and the last C7 ZR1 produced: a 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Coupe (Lot S218) showing just 14 miles.
Additional collection offerings include more than a dozen private groupings headed for the Dallas auction block. Among them are eight of Datsun and Nissan’s celebrated Z model line forming The Angelone Z Collection, The Destin Florida Cars Collection of mostly modern high-performance sports and muscle cars at no reserve, more than 30 classic Mopars and more including Hemis, R/Ts and SEs from The Mopars 5150 Collection, film-inspired cars like the Ghostbusters Ecto 1 replica from the Texas Movie Car Collection and a host of other desirable darlings from collectors around the country.
Consignments are still being accepted for the Mecum Dallas 2024 auction, and bidder registration will remain open throughout the duration of the event. For more information on Mecum Dallas 2024 and all other scheduled Mecum auctions, visit Mecum.com or call (262) 275-5050.?
