One's profession is the stuff of deep contemplation. As far as the matter of work-life there are a few thoughts I would like to share on some of the less arbitrary reasons for leaving your job, if you are pondering this matter
(1). Familiarity - not learning something new
You are like a product - it's important to keep innovating your service and broaden your portfolio.
(2). When your values are at odds with your employers and vice versa
The employer is not the only guilty party here - we hold a responsibility to understand that anything counter to a set of values will lead to resentment. Do each other a favour and move on
(3). Physical and Mental exhaustion
Enough said and a holiday is not a real remedy to this. Your inner voice will tell you when only a change will solve the dilemma.
(4). Being passed over
Nothing demotivates like hard work gone unnoticed. But, self acknowledgment goes a long way in knowing your worth. Take it positively and focus on your strengths and skills. Still give your best at your current space but ensure you take the learning required to grow into the next role around the corner.
(5). Passion for something else
Wow, work is obviously in most case a means to an end. No one should live for work. And people who know me know that I'm fortunate that work and hobby happen to be the same thing. This is why I have no regrets on the time and love spent at it. But, if you belong to the other faction - I can advise turning your passion into something commercial. Strategise and plan around what you're good at look at ways to turn that into a commercial future. You'll be happier for it.
