Keeping your data flowing

Keeping your data flowing

What does it take to ensure a stable data connection for your business?

It has become increasingly more important to be connected on a permanent basis, ensuring a successful run business. Information flow is crucial to order goods, communicate with customers, security controls & payment acceptance to name but a few elements.

The three considering factors hereto are:

  • The applications that you're running, i.e. voice, accounting software & CCTV cameras - You're intended use of your data link will be the guide for choosing fibre over wireless for instance and also the speed of your connection;
  • Physical location of your business - Your address will determine what access medium options are available, whether you're city bound or managing a lodge in the Karoo;
  • Your uptime requirement, in other words can you afford to be disconnected for an hour, a day, a week or not at all - Can you run your business in the event of a data disconnect?

It is that simple - or is it?

South Africa has similar challenges to other countries where we have a diverse range of access mediums, but universal coverage is a problem and so are factors like load shedding and criminality that effects communication infrastructure.

One therefore needs to plan carefully, considering the said factors above, to ensure a stable data connection suited your individual needs.

That article really makes one think. Living in a metro area really lets you take for granted that you have so many connectivity options available at your fingertips, not only for your day to day but also as back-up.
