The Giants have a new home! ??

This is a GIANT new chapter for our team. We are very excited to become members at an exciting new workspace and members club, with gym and wellness classes, parties, wine tasting and language classes to get our creative juices flowing. We will be sure to invite our client partners for a visit. More pics to come ??

The news agenda picks up pace ??♀???

Labour wins the 2024 general election ??

On July 4, the Labour party won 412 seats in the House of Commons and Keir Starmer became the UK’s new Prime Minister. The King’s Speech introduced several bills impacting tech, including a new Cyber Security and Resilience Bill, Digital Information and Smart Data Bill or the Skills England Bill. There was no mention of an AI Bill in the speech, but the new government announced it will “seek to establish the appropriate legislation to place requirements on those working to develop the most powerful artificial intelligence models.”

You can read our take on the new government’s tech policy plans here.?

One of the greatest IT outages in history hits the world ??

The CrowdStrike global IT outage on 19 July, caused by a corrupted software update, affected millions of devices worldwide. It disrupted critical sectors, including banking, transportation and healthcare. The detrimental disruption points to a new, emerging reality - can automation be trusted to update critical software? There are now calls for more manual oversight at third-party vendors, particularly those involved with critical infrastructure issuing regular, automated software updates.?

Meta to withhold multimodal AI models from EU users ????

Meta has announced it will withhold its Llama multimodal AI model from users in the European Union, citing unclear regulatory guidance. Meta's decision reflects wider challenges from Big Tech against the bloc, with Google recently appealing against the EU’s decision to fine Google €4.3 billion for abusing its Android market dominance.?

As you can imagine, the next year will be dominated by narratives centred on the importance of innovation versus compliance, and where the balance truly lies.

Our client partners in the news ??

We are always pleased to see our client partners share their news and insights in top tier media. Here are some giant highlights from across Europe??
