Keeping in touch on the big issues
Did you attend our CEO Summer Spotlight at the end of August? We had over 250 people attend to hear an update on The Growth and Skills Levy, Skills England, the Autumn Budget and the party conference season. In fact, we had so many questions that I was unable to answer them all – as a result I’ve uploaded some responses to our website.?
If you weren’t able to attend – don’t worry, you can watch a recording of the webinar here or you can read this piece on the major issues covered which I have recently written exclusively for FE News.
I’m pleased to announce that on the back of this successful session, I will be hosting a regular webinar: ‘AELP Spotlight: Live’ on a monthly basis. The first one takes place at 10am on 26 September. We will be discussing a range of topics including our response to the autumn budget, our plans for AELP Autumn Conference 2024 and much, much more. AELP Spotlight: Live is open to everyone, whether you’re an AELP member or not – so be sure to register your free place now.?
What does the skills sector think about the proposed Growth and Skills Levy?
AELP recently co-hosted a webinar with the Department for Education focusing on the forthcoming Growth and Skills Levy which was attended by over 500 people and was sponsored by OneFile.
The discussion centred on the current state of the apprenticeship system in the UK, the challenges it faces, and future changes that could make it more adaptable, inclusive, and efficient.
Getting the views of our members and the wider skills sector on such important potential reforms is a priority for us – and I know the senior officials from the DfE on the call also found this useful. You can read more about the webinar in this article in FE News from our Policy and Stakeholder Manager, Helen Cuthbert.
AELP Autumn Conference 2024
With so many changes on the horizon, the AELP Autumn Conference is the place to be this year. Booking is open now and takes on Thursday 7 November at the Hilton on Deansgate in Manchester. This year Autumn Conference is sponsored by City & Guilds.
As we weren’t able to have officials join us at our National Conference in June due to the General Election, we are looking forward to them joining us to discuss the latest developments in the skills sector.
Kate Ridley-Moy, Director of Apprenticeships and Skills Bootcamps at the Department for Education, will be joining us to provide an important update. We are looking forward to hearing Kate talk about the formation of Skills England and timeframes for the introduction of the Growth and Skills Levy. Joining Kate is Paul Joyce, Deputy Director at Ofsted, who will provide updates from their recent Big Listen exercise, as well as taking your questions.
I would be delighted if you were able to join us at AELP Autumn Conference this year.
