Keeping that sense of wonder

As a project manager, I love hearing good news on days where I seem to have been fighting many fires.
I remember this day when I saw an email from my protégé?that said “Exciting News”!??
It turned out he had been promoted and he was thanking me for all the support and coaching over the years. He is now a project manager, achieving the goal he had in life. I was very happy for him.
It took me almost the whole day to respond to him. It was a typical chaotic day that most project managers live through. I had met a few vendors, many team members, dealt with the risks for my projects before I could get back to him. My day just got better when I could sit down and respond to him.
We chatted and at some point the conversation was about how I could help. He said he had a great start and thanked me for the learning.
These are what he thought really helped him with career. Sharing knowledge, managing a team and prioritizing work.
I reflected on his wisdom.
This is a pretty good list to start with in any role.?
Sometimes we are too busy to stop and help people. We are so busy we don’t see signs, people asking for help or people just needing that push to get to that level.
You can help enormously by taking a few minutes of your day helping someone else. Your own world may be chaotic and full of pressure. These small acts go a long way.
To me there is inspiration everywhere. A song. A conversation. A fleeting moment where you sit down with your coffee and reflect on the exciting news from those you helped.

Wherever you are in your career think of the next step and don't give up your sense of wonder.
In this beautiful song by Lee Ann Womack I see that inspiration for everyone who is trying to succeed.
I?hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
I do hope you will see a new door open each time one closes. You deserve it.
