Keeping the human in Human Resources
If you are reading this on the day it is sent, then I am currently sitting in a conference room getting an AI update for business owners.
I have always been a bit of a techno geek and have always used technology in HR, but I am also acutely aware that people buy from people AND when the **** hits the fan, people want to speak to a person and not get caught up going round and round in circles with some automated system.
I am incredibly proud of my team at DOHR. They are the front line of our business.
They take the calls when our clients (or prospects) need help. If we can't answer the phones, then we have a team of people who are on standby to do it for us, but you will speak to a person (during office hours).
Yes, we have a chat bot on our website, but I'm still in two minds as to whether to leave it there!!! After some very scary AI interactions, I turned it off on our social media platforms.
I push my team in their personal development. They are up to date in employment legislation and best practice. When someone calls with an issue, they are given a range of options and are told what's legal, what's moral, what's affordable, what's high risk etc.
We don't have a vault of documents.
Why not? Because every business, every business owner and every employee is unique. We may have some standard documents, but we also know how to customise those documents so they meet your exact needs.
Your dedicated HR advisor gets to know you. It's important to us and we believe it's important to you to.
So what has this got to do with my AI conference?
I am not against AI. Far from it.
And I certainly don't believe it will do everyone out of a job - not for many many years.

But I do think that, just as with the evolution of the home PC and the smart phone, our lives can be made easier with the right adoption of AI in our workplaces.
I do use AI tools.
I use them a lot.
But they are just a tool.
Everything which is written is edited.
Everything which is analysed is tripled check.
AI makes stuff up. It 'hallucinates'. It creates.
While there is a role for that in society, there is not (yet) a place for that in good quality HR advice.
We do use automation and workflows, but do not confuse those with AI!!! If you want an electronic of our last quarterly newsletter, click the link below and our computer systems will send you a copy, straight to your inbox.
