Keeping it Going by Trying Something Different

March 2020, seems a lifetime ago, but thats the last time I was working.
Working on myself
In the last few months, although I may not have been able to add much value to the "Professional Experience" section of CV. The more important "Life Experience" section (not on my CV) is an area I have developed.
Setting Mini-Goals
There are many of lessons we can all learn from the hardest periods in our lives, but rather than dwell on them, it's important to reflect, set mini-goals and celebrate those small victories once completed to see how far we have come.
Whilst the selected list below may not look that special to anyone else, it has given me a sense of achievement at a time when it's all too easy to feel lost and get into a negative mindset.
Personal Achievements
- Redecorated the house
- Painted the garden furniture
- Put up garden lights
- Learnt to bake
- Power washed and treated the patio and decking
- Putting together the most difficult children's bed
But, undoubtedly the best part of having time off has been spending quality time with my 2 year old son Rufus. This simply wouldn't have been possible in my previous jobs or without COVID-19 interrupting the world as we know it! Watching him grow into the most beautiful, kind, intelligent and thoughtful little boy has put things into perspective about my work/life balance, what I want and need from my next role.
It has also underlined my passion for teaching and development, something I loved, but wasn't able to dedicate as much of my time to recently. So achieving the below together was serious fun!
- Making coffee
- Counting to 10, then 20
- Singing the alphabet
- Toilet training (in a week)
- Riding a scooter
- Growing (and watering) plants
- Recognising a bus (by its number) and saying where it goes
Professional Achievements
- Designed and created my website Doing it Digital - launching soon
- Started writing/blogging again
- Reading books: Reasons to Stay Alive, The Infinite Game, ABM is B2B, Working with Difficult People, Whats your Point?
- (Re) certified in a number of areas including: Account Based Marketing, Google Analytics, Google Ads, HubSpot, Content Marketing, Inbound Marketing, Sales Enablement, Social Media Strategy, Search Engine Optimisation and Search Engine Marketing
- Coaching, mentoring and providing marketing advice to those who want to break into marketing
Promoting Myself
Of course none of the above were going to help me find a job, so rather than sit back (I really am no good at that) I racked my brain, then...
*PING!* Here’s €1,000 free credit to get started with LinkedIn ads
So I thought (hard).
What if I used these credits to promote myself, my skills and how I can help ambitious companies transform their digital experiences by utilising marketing? And employing me!
So I got to work, creating a very targeted campaign to:
- Audience: Senior Business Leaders, Senior Marketing Leaders, HR Decision Makers, Senior Recruitment Consultants
- Locations: Hampshire, Berkshire, Surrey and London
- Industries: Key industries I have experience of working in
- Format: Carousel image ad, each "card" showcasing how I can help and what I can deliver
After that I created two very simple ad creatives using Canva. Although I might work in Marketing, design is not a key strength of mine, so Canva is something I would recommend to anyone!
Results
In the weeks the campaign has been running I have achieved the below so far:
- 30,000 impressions
- LinkedIn profile views have increased by over 100% (they were already at their highest)
- 40+ connection requests
- 4 interviews
Not too bad considering how long it's been since I last did a paid media campaign myself!
Maybe it could help you (or your business)?
If there is anyone out there who would like to take advantage of €1,000 (£900) in LinkedIn ad credits, just let me know and I would be happy share!
What have been some of your personal achievements? Let me know, I now need some new challenges?
As usual, please...
