The Keeper of Words (2)

There’s a keeper of words
who keeps a store
of magical sounds,
for each conjurer,
for every word -
a synonym,
and every opposite,
an antonym.
She keeps these wordlings
safe and secure,
lets out the sounds,
like a whisperer.
For those who have
a well-tuned ear,
they form a pattern,
for all to hear.
She comes to me
in dead of night,
the words take shape,
jewel-bright.
Some words ornate,
some simple and stark,
they burn in a crucible,
after dark.
She nods to me,
gives me a sign -
and I help myself
to those that rhyme-
each combination
is unique;
each quest’s an adventure
for those who seek.
Some shapes- base metal,
transform in fire,
some flow like
water,
in the gyre.
Some float like air,
with ethereal forms,
some born of earth,
and they are strong.
We are the conjurers,
and magicians,
transforming elements
to something magnificent.
And when this power
is unleashed-
we are the alchemists,
underneath.
