In t he past, it was a handshake, a nod, a smile, once meant “I got this. You have my word.” Today, doing a $50 contract or $50 million dollar contract based on a handshake can be costly. People break their word like tossing a paper plate into the trash. They don’t think twice about it.
Some get offended when a contract is signed where money is involved. They expect the other party to honor their word and be considered a trustworthy person.
On the other hand, today, there are some trustworthy folks, who will put their lives on the line to the extreme, simply to keep their word. If they said. They will call someone at 6:00pm and they were on the interstate and. their phone was out of battery, they will make the nearest exit, go to a gas station, and borrow someone’s phone to make that call on a seemingly trivial matter. Why? To keep their word. Stories of war in the battlefield are filed with brave frontline warriors, who keep their word to the bitter end. We will never hear how they kept their word because they never lived to share their story. They kept their word to death.
Where do you stand when it comes to keeping your word?
Keeping our word is a key part of integrity. It’s a key part of building trust. Once you gain that reputation for keeping our word, people trust you more easily. They automatically remove their barriers of suspicion, checking in, and mistrust.
