Keep Your Finger on the Pulse to Stay Relevant

Most of the successful people I know do MORE LISTENING than talking. A valued trait indeed, and one worth adopting.

In the world of the channel, wouldn’t it be nice to know what your partners think??

There’s no way to know unless you ask. But remember, if you ask questions, you may not receive the most flattering answers. Don’t ask if you are not prepared for that. ??

Before engaging, ask yourself the following:

“What do I want feedback on?” Keep your focus narrow so you can dive deeper.

“What is my objective?” Define what are you trying to gain insight on or improve.

“What is the best way to get feedback?” In person, survey…

“What is my plan to act on that feedback?” Create a plan to implement improvements & communicate

The value that comes from having a conversation or soliciting feedback can ultimately be the difference between success and failure. The key is to listen; to understand. Not just reply.

In case you were wondering, YES, I do take my own advice.

At Poly, we regularly reach out to partners to gain insight into what is working, where can we improve and what they still need from us to be successful. ??The answers are not always roses and rainbows. That feedback, no matter how “constructive,” is what your end goal is. ?Constructive feedback will only make you stronger.

I challenge you to engage your partners and LISTEN, LEARN and ASSESS.?This will allow you the ability to build more efficient and effective programs and tools.

We have to keep transforming ourselves to stay relevant for the future.

Great advice, Jennifer. Knowing what you plan to accomplish, listening and understanding without defending, and willingness to incorporate advice to drive change are a huge part of the recipe for success.

Excellent points here. You're right about the constructive feedback, because if it IS all rainbows and roses, then your partners don't trust you enough to give honest feedback. Even if a program is excellent, there are always things we can do to make it better.
