A young girl once asked an elderly woman, "Do I really need friends in life?"
The wise woman replied, "Yes, life is tough. You need someone who won't judge you, someone you can lean on during hard times and celebrate with in the good. A true friend is a pillar of emotional support."
Curious, the girl asked, "Is it true that a fake friend is more dangerous than an enemy?"
The elderly woman nodded. "Absolutely. You recognize your enemy and keep your guard up. But a fake friend earns your trust, learns your weaknesses, and can betray you when you least expect it."
"How can I avoid fake friends?" the girl asked.
The elderly woman thought for a moment and asked, "Between a small garden and a forest, which has more snakes and scorpions?"
"The forest," the girl replied.
"Exactly," the woman said. "A smaller circle of friends is like a garden—easier to tend, with fewer dangers. When I was young, my circle was big. But as I grew wiser, it became smaller. True friendship is about quality, not quantity. Many people may surround you, but only a few will truly stand by you. Be mindful of who you let into your circle, and focus on the ones you can love and trust."
The lesson: Life is better when your circle is small and filled with genuine friends. Choose wisely. ??
