Road shows bring change. Road shows connect people. Road shows set the narrative.
Road shows have been part of our culture for centuries. They take different forms in different spheres of life.
Whether it is a procession or a yatra in religious festivals, a product display on a branded vehicle in sales and marketing, or a rally in politics, they all share the same concept.
Road shows are marketing activities that demonstrate and promote a particular view. They are proven ways of scaling up anything. No wonder the French president must have been thinking that he was doing road shows since he landed in India, waving his hands to greet the people.
Politics – (you may skip this part if you don’t like politics)
oadshows in Indian politics have played a significant role in shaping the nation's history and political landscape. Here are some notable examples:
1. Dandi March (1930): Mahatma Gandhi's 240-mile march to protest the British salt tax galvanized millions and ignited the independence movement.
2. Quit India Movement (1942): Another Gandhi-led movement demanding British withdrawal, it marked a turning point despite being met with suppression.
3. Bhakti Movement (15th-17th centuries): This socio-religious movement challenged caste hierarchies and promoted inclusivity through hymns, gatherings, and yatras.
4. Non-Cooperation Movement (1920-1922): Gandhi's call for boycotting British institutions crippled the colonial administration and highlighted Indian aspirations for self-governance
5. Chipko Movement (1973): Led by women in Uttarakhand, this non-violent environmental activism embraced trees to prevent deforestation.
These are just a few examples of how roadshows have been used in Indian politics to raise awareness, mobilize support, and shape public opinion. They continue to be a powerful tool for political engagement in India todayCredit - Information available on
Business –
?Do you know which sector provides the highest number of employment? Sales and Marketing. Yet it is perceived as a dustbin because no one wants to become a salesperson at first. But after failing to get into Medical, Engineering, Defense, UPSC, and other jobs, students end up doing sales. I am not saying this based on any data or research, but by my own experience and emotion.
Now let’s get back to the topic. (Sometimes, I go with the flow and forget the core point of the article…
Well, walking and meeting are the core of Marketing. Market means a place where people go and exchange goods, buy new products, and meet new or old sellers. They also negotiate, bargain, and experience various types of emotions from this activity. I think that is marketing. The very basic and raw definition of marketing. No AI will tell you this, that’s why you must read all my articles.
So the people who are masters of this activity or manage this entire show are called marketers. Creating new opportunities through meeting and doing market activities are generally called Road shows, Canter activity, Market Blitz, or Hallabol activities.
Why and When Road Shows happen-
Now I will share my experience of Road Shows, most of them from my B2C experiences from my previous organization.
What was the difference? Read carefully…!

Importance of Props.
A little filter is important for life to spice it up. A few low-cost props and freebies increase the productivity and effectiveness of the campaign. They are important to communicate the message to the audience. I am sharing the list of these elements and their approximate cost
.
What should we avoid –
This is important for marketing, commercial, and even management. Especially after me, many road shows happened in different organizations where I worked. They can go back to the files and optimize their operations.
?Vehicle and Setup:
The choice of vehicle or setup for a roadshow primarily depends on the activity type, target audience, product cost, and industry. Typically, in B2C campaigns for low-priced items, a Tata Ace or similar small/medium vehicle is used to create buzz and market curiosity.
B2B vs. B2C: Beyond the Buzz
B2B roadshows focus more on lead generation, acquiring new leads through product or service demos. The sales funnel is longer compared to B2C, so nurturing those leads and showcasing expertise plays the important role.
Think personalized product demos, insightful presentations, and opportunities to network with potential clients.
Premium Products: The Experience Zone
When it comes to high-end offerings, forget the van and roll out the red carpet! Premium products deserve an experience zone – a dedicated space that immerses potential buyers in the world of your brand. Interactive exhibits, personalized consultations, and a touch of luxury create a lasting impression that seals the deal. Refer above image.
Integrated Roadshows:
Today, we can create more integrated roadshows. Relying solely on a mobile van (canter) activity won't yield significant results, regardless of the budget, if it's not integrated with other BTL activities, sales and service ecosystems, and digital promotions.
Fifa World Cup Project Example:
A great example of an integrated roadshow was the Fifa World Cup project in Goa in 2018. It combined multiple elements:
This was truly integrated, even without digital elements. However, incorporating social media to generate buzz could have doubled its impact. Today i would stream the entire activity to have 10x more impact.
The Marriage:
My next article will go deeper into this concept of "marrying" offline and online strategies for truly integrated omni-channel roadshows. It will explore how and why this collaboration is crucial for generating legitimate results.
