Keep Up to Date with VU.CITY

We're baaack! ?? Welcome to the February edition of The Monthly VU – your source for the hottest updates and insights straight from the world of VU.CITY. We have some exciting updates for you, so let’s dive right in.???

?? Viewsheds: Visual Spatial Analysis Made Easy??

Introducing Viewsheds: our newest feature that has been developed to make conducting visual spatial analysis easy. Viewsheds help represent the visibility or “line of sight” of a person's or camera's view location, and is even more powerful in our 3D environment as it shows how objects (3D) can affect the calculation and effect on a view in real-time.

What makes Viewsheds special in VU.CITY? In short, you can run your analysis on a highly detailed model that is enriched with a huge consents database. Furthermore you can take the study further by utilising the other tools available to tell a better story about your site.?

Watch the video below and learn more about Viewsheds by clicking here.

??? Webinar: Making Visual Impact Analysis Easy and Approachable in 2024 ???

Following from above, we were excited to host our first webinar of 2024 last week to celebrate our latest feature; Viewsheds.?

The good news? It’s now available to watch on demand! Join our experts Christopher Wandel , Ethesham Haque as they delve into all things visual impact analysis and explore ‘Viewsheds’, sharing how sector professionals in the built environment can achieve best practice standards.

Also joining the webinar as a panelist is Alan Smithies , Senior Strategic Planner from the London Plan team who talks about the London Plan’s approach to design/tall buildings/strategic and local views and why visual impact assessments can be useful.

?? Inspiring Future Planners at Cardiff University's Winter School ??

Our Key Account Manager for the Public Sector, Christopher Wandel recently took a trip down to 英国卡地夫大学 to take part in a session as part of their inaugural Planning Winter School. ?

He was able to share his expert insights on digital planning, 3D models, digital twins and visualisation of urban spaces alongside other innovative companies. We were delighted to learn that the participants enjoyed the session, and we look forward to these budding planners incorporating these insights as they join us in creating the best city for all!

?? 3D Platforms and Generative Design Unveiled at University Showcase! ??

It was great seeing our Architecture Sector Lead, Tazeen Raza deliver a presentation at the 英国威斯敏斯特大学 to the undergraduate real estate students as part of their planning and sustainability module.?

In the session, they showcased how our 3D platform's integrated data is transforming decision-making for professionals. They shed light on design, planning, and environmental contexts, giving a sneak peek into how it shapes our cityscape.

What's more, they jumped into the world of generative design by demonstrating how SiteSolve, our generative design tool, reduces site and design feasibility risks and is increasing site confidence on sites and designs right from the beginning.

We're excited to see how they take these insights into the field! ???

???? The People Have Spoken! ????

We recently polled you, our VU Citizens and experts in the industry, about the biggest barriers professionals in the built environment face when integrating technology into their workflow. The results? See below.

?? Technical Barriers: 13%

?? Budget Constraints: 40%

??♀? Resistance to Change: 36%

? Time Available to Adopt: 11%

It’s clear that it is time for a shift in resource allocation and perhaps overcoming technical barriers might just be the key to unlocking a more streamlined planning process.

Whether you’re in the budget camp or the resistance to change camp, let’s talk! Have a chat with one of our experts today to see how we can help you overcome these barriers.

?? A Greener Future ??

We've recently planted 54 trees in the Andes to help with reforestation as part of our pledge with One Tree Planted.

Not only does this help in reforestation efforts, but it also reminds us of the immense power nature holds in rejuvenating our planet. It's a small yet impactful step towards a greener future, and by working together we can make a real difference and inspire others to take action for our environment. ???

?? Meet a team member ??

Olly Boustead, Head of Application Engineering in Technology at VU.CITY

Say hello to Oliver Boustead , one of our valued team working in the engineering department, co-ordinating the development of VU.CITY’s 3D application. We asked Olly about his role at VU.CITY and what he’s most excited about at the moment. Here’s what he had to say ???

“Applying visualisation technologies originally built for video games to other industries has become more and more commonplace in the past few years and it’s been exciting taking part in that movement within the property industry. Creating a real-time app for a dynamic city-scale model that brings urban planning to life is a fun and challenging task, pushing these technologies beyond their original limits and into new areas."
