Keep Training Your Creative Muscle

Keep Training Your Creative Muscle

Since I was 14 years old, I have been in love with Music, and this passion has led me to become a hobbyist DJ, and over the years, this developed into integrating my passion for Music to spice up my presentations and using videos and storytelling techniques that progressively enhanced my ability to influence both professionally and personally; I call it my "Creative Muscle".

In the vast expanse of skills and abilities that humans possess, there's a common thread that ties them all together: the principle that "everything is a muscle." This isn't just about the biceps you flex or the legs you stretch; it extends to the less tangible skills, like memory or creativity. Think about the last time you tried to remember a phone number without reaching for your smartphone. Challenging, wasn't it? That's because, like a muscle, if you don't use it, you lose it. This analogy perfectly encapsulates the essence of creativity. It's not some mystical, elusive gift bestowed upon a chosen few but rather a muscle that needs regular exercise to stay fit and healthy.

So, how do we keep our creative muscles in top shape? Here are a few day-to-day activities that can serve as your workout routine:

  1. Journaling: Start your day by writing in a journal. It doesn't have to be a diary entry; it could be about anything that sparks your interest. This practice helps you to flex your narrative skills and explore new ideas.
  2. Brainstorming Sessions: Allocate a few minutes each day to brainstorm ideas on any topic, no matter how mundane. The goal isn't to come up with groundbreaking innovations but to stretch your imagination and consider possibilities beyond the obvious.
  3. Creative Hobbies: Engage in hobbies that require a creative output, such as painting, writing, cooking, or even gardening. These activities are not just relaxing but also instrumental in nurturing your creative thinking.
  4. Mindful Observation: Take time to observe your surroundings with intent. Notice the colors, textures, and patterns in your environment. This practice sharpens your attention to detail and can inspire creative projects.
  5. Diverse Reading: Expose yourself to a wide range of topics through reading. Whether it's fiction, non-fiction, or even articles on subjects you know little about, each piece offers new perspectives and ideas to explore.
  6. Collaborative Projects: Engage in projects with others. Collaboration brings together different viewpoints, pushing you to think creatively to incorporate and build on these diverse ideas.

Now, for the Monday tip: Set aside a "Creativity Hour" each week. Dedicate this time solely to engaging in an activity that challenges your creativity. It could be anything from starting a new art project, writing a story, or even redesigning a space in your home. The key is to make this a non-negotiable part of your schedule, like a meeting with your most important client: you. This consistent practice enhances your creativity and serves as a reminder of your commitment to personal growth.

Remember, training your creative muscle is a journey, not a destination. There will be days when ideas flow like a river and others when the well seems dry. It is important to keep at it, pushing through the dry spells with the understanding that every effort contributes to a stronger, more vibrant, creative muscle. So, embrace the process, enjoy the journey, and watch your creativity flourish like never before.

Have a wonderful week,
