Somewhere along the way, I read an article that defined Motivation as, “the driving force by which humans achieve their goals.”
And I like it. A lot.
It is full of high impact words and the connotations behind each of them are quite positive. Powerful.
Where does the driving force that is motivation come from? Why is it that sometimes we feel filled to the brim with it, engines revving-- while other times we feel like a felled log stuck in the mud? I don’t have the answer to that, but I am sure you can agree that we all need a place that we can pull that power from when we need a little nudge. When we feel momentum slipping and motivation feels low, we need to step back and recharge. What is the best way to fill our Motivation Bank?
We know that motivation may be intrinsic or extrinsic. We can read articles like this, look for quotes on positivity, revisit our “Why”. We can gamify tasks, read over our Bucket List, and visualize our goals. But to be honest, I have found that sometimes these traditional suggestions can feel flat and uninspiring.
I like helping people, so there is something else about the definition that has grabbed my attention. The word ‘humans’.?There are people around you that have the same need—the need for motivation and goal achievement.?People that need inspiration or a positive word—a sense of comradery that will help empower them. I have found that reaching out to motivate others helps me fill my own Motivation Bank. There is something about energizing others that energizes me! This becomes simultaneously intrinsic and extrinsic and the “team effort” makes it *that much better*.
