Leadership Thought of the Day: If you can't fly then run; if you can't run then walk; if you can't walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward." - Martin Luther King, Jr., pastor activist, humanitarian, and Civil Rights leader.
In my experience, it is incredibly easy to get bogged down in the details of life. Some days, it's pretty overwhelming. We turn on the television, and the news screams out more tragedy, more doomsday prophecies. We become tempted to stop, lay down, and quit.
Dr. King's words remind us, however, that we cannot simply allow life to happen to us, or we will always only be victims of circumstances. We must keep moving forward, whatever we do, run, walk, and crawl. We must continually strive to make tomorrow better than today. If not for ourselves, then for our children and our children's children.
Life is not a sprint but a marathon. It will be an arduous journey at times, filled with mountains, valleys, bogs, and pits, but seeing life from the mountain tops, whatever height those might be, is a reward little known to many who would rather slump in shadows resigned to a defeat of their choosing.
Therefore, despite the world of cynicism, I choose to see the positive in life. To grasp hold of optimism and dreams. This may seem foolish to some, but the dreamers, doers, and optimists among us conquer new worlds and soar to unimaginable heights. They have created new medicines, developed new technologies, landed on the moon, and explored the stars. These optimists see God in a new light as well. They are striving to reach out to touch Him as he reaches back. Even when darkness threatens to overwhelm, these are the chosen few who keep moving forward. I am lucky to count myself among them. How about you?

1 年Good to hear these positive thoughts Scott Soden! With all the news these days, despair sometimes seems the only option. But I love the quote of MLK you share, reminds me we have to keep working towards a better world, no matter how dark it gets.
