Keep Moving Forward
Good afternoon everyone, I hope you are all having a great week so far. For those of use in North Texas we are about to have an incredible rest of the week, well at least weather wise, I mean I can't speak on behalf of anything else for you. lol, but 5 days in a row over 70 and 60's the remainder, nice!
I woke up this morning like always and took our Belgian Malinios Eva for a jog through the neighborhood, then while hanging out with the wife, got a notification alert on my phone. It was Facebook, oy, you know, I have even turned off the notifications at least 100 times, and still...but I digress, the notification was one of those "shared memories" from the past, you know these:
So this is the memory that comes up this morning. Away from spending time with my family, for me, this is my favorite place. Holding mitts, and more specifically, holding mitts for Casey "Shooter" Williams.
Growing up together and with his older brothers and our group of friends, we all grew up tough, at times a little careless with that toughness I guess. Boxing, rough housing, and trouble (at times) followed. So naturally the "Rocky" movies became almost a symbol for our friendship.
In what we thought was going to be the last "Rocky" before "Creed" came out, Rocky Balboa has a moment with his son, whom is feeling lost and down and Rocky gives his son the following advice and says, "It's not about how hard you hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"
It really is an awesome moment in film. The speech delivered perfectly from a fictional boxing character that was able to take punch after punch and somehow remain in the fight and able to outlast and eventually out strike his opponents.
You know this world is sometimes an all too unforgiving place. It doesn't care if you just lost someone close to you, or struggling at home, struggling at work, life keeps moving forward, whether you are comfortable or not. At any given moment a rocking body shot can knock you to your knees. In those moments, the moments when we feel like every where you turn you are getting punched in the nose, those "failure" moments, you have a choice of two paths.
You can curl up in a ball and say woe is me, and re think and re live those moments over and over in your head. You can give up, you can choose to stop. There are tons of examples, and you know even some good resources out there for you, if that's the route you take....
Or...you can stand up to the pain, know your true strength, your true worth, and you can keep moving forward just like life does.
I've been fortunate to have been in athletics, baseball thru college and then to be around some of these incredible professional athletes on a daily basis with Crusade Combat. Some of the greatest moments I have ever witnessed came from teams being down 4 runs and coming back to win the game in the last two innings. Seeing a fighter on the brink of a loss either by being submitted or knocked out, and watching them survive through an onslaught, only to come back and have his hand raised in victory. Those moments, those are the moments that define your character. What are you made of?
The sports world always relates well to the sales world, but this relates to every vertical in the "work world". Are you having a bad month? Getting told no over and over? Is that spilling over to your personal life? Are you getting pushed over by a boss, or being pushed out by a company?
Taking those punches, surviving, lasting, just staying in it....is how you get your shot. Keep moving forward, keep calling, keep visiting, keep submitting your ideas...keep moving forward. As long as you are moving forward with your head held up, and working hard to make progress in your life for you, and for the people you care most for.....good things will happen!
The business world is not for the weak, it's not here to cater to your needs, it's a cold and nasty place and I don't care how hard you can hit, it can chew you up and spit you out. You can be riding high one moment and at the bottom of the barrel the next.
Take a look at yourself though, where you are at...well we at least know you have a computer or smart phone, and you are more than likely over 20, so you've been able to not only make it this far in life, but you've also been able to do pretty well for yourself considering all that could be worse. You have the strength inside of you, we all do. So when you are in these moments, the moments when everything is going wrong, and you think you can do no right, remember that you've always kept moving forward to this point.
You've made it through some incredible journeys and you're ok, you're alive. Keep that in your head when those punches are being landed, know your strength and soon enough that opening is going to come up, and when it does...oh how sweet the victory is, once you've gone thru hell and back for it!!!!
I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your week. We have a new online venture as well as group and personal workouts coming out soon! Stay in touch.
Best regards,
Hal Brock
