"KEEP ME FREE" by Peter Dreams
think of me
as you want me to be
never constantly
keep me free
Like all the catchiest tunes that belong to the history of a genre, “Keep Me Free” embodies a spirit without sounding like any one particular artist or song. Equal parts rock’n’roll heroes, contemporary glam and dreamland symphony, the amalgam is a powerful potion: imbue and it will break down what you know already, only to build it up again, over and over, without disturbing what’s been solidly grounded.
i thought we had to tear the thing apart
cause that is how the future starts
By doing just as he sings, Peter Dreams’ lets the magic of MOONRIIVR (his companion band for this album) guide the production and the tempo. Inherently motivational (Quick! Find the dance floor!), “Keep Me Free” has the joyous feel of a man on his way, spry in pace and delivery, with a smile for the adventure; ready to learn something new.?
In his natural state, Peter Dreams’ voice sounds like a vintage recording, dusted with grooves and scratches, and “Keep Me Free” ” showcases his vocals in a new way we haven’t heard from him yet. Layers of bubbling distortion and reverb hover like multiple-personalities in the mix, while interesting earworms weave in and out (like a deep dip-pan that happens mid-song), creating a tubular, swirling effect. As the song builds and swells, it creates its own audible walls, fluid and feeling, that give way to sax, high-necked electric guitar wails and groovy percussion.

i want roots in the ground
so you can build me in the walls
you can pour me the sea
If we are tethered to a place of meaning, if we have a solid foundation, then we have the means to be free. We can roam, we can scatter, we can hide or we can change part of who we are because we can always come back. “Keep Me Free” is a choice, a modern love song, expressed from both the heart and the head, rooted in feel-good, classic dancefloor rockers — a song you think you recognize but can’t quite place.
i thought we had to hide for privacy
but that just let us lie honestly
As the old saying goes, “the truth will set you free,” and for Peter Dreams, stepping out of one world and into another means opening up new channels and shedding any old ideas of who or what he’s supposed to be doing as a contemporary artist. With “Keep Me Free”, Peter Dreams moves easily, asks openly and sings without restriction, keeping him freely moving on the path forward.
