Keep Learning From Your Mistakes, Try Making New Mistakes

Yesterday my daughter was sharing her learning experience from the Pre Board Exams she is giving. She did admit that she made few mistakes which was a learning experience for her. My only advice to her was to Not repeat the same mistake and Try Making New Mistakes. Yes, mistakes make us learn but repeating the same mistake does tell us that we have not learnt from the lesson well. And by making New Mistakes we continue our learning journey. Over the Years as a Startuprenure, I have learnt to keep learning & evolving by reading as much and by questioning the Existing. Learned from the Mistakes of others and not by experience of making mistakes myself. Yes, there is no age for learning. Yes, at every phase of life we will keep making mistakes. Yes, we need to learn to not repeat the mistakes and Try as much to Make New Mistakes.

We must learn from our mistakes. But if we keep on doing the same mistake, then we need to have a hard look at ourselves. We should not allow as much to make the same mistake twice. The second time we make it, it's no longer a mistake, it's a choice. Making the same mistake time and time again is a sign of either indifference or lack of care and attention. In our Startup Jeevitam, we have tried creating a culture of encouraging our Colleagues & New Joinees, when they make a mistake. We try to help them recognise what they have done wrong, why, and how to correct it in future. When we delegate a task, we ask ourself: Have We explained it fully? Failing to address Why a Mistake is Again & Again Made is a Mistake in Itself.

I believe Making Mistakes in pursuit of our goals is an unavoidable part of the process. Some of us are afraid to make any mistakes at all and the result is we don’t take enough chances, embrace risk and try new things, which ultimately limits our chances of being successful. That being said, I think that we need to do our best to commit to Only Making New Mistakes. Over the years at Jeevitam We have learnt to eliminate making the same mistakes that others have done and commit to only making New Mistakes and this way we fail faster AND succeed faster. I believe if we all Focus on allowing ourselves to make New Mistakes, to Build on what others have learnt and to constantly tweak and adjust our ideas along the way, we will Learn More, Grow More & Achieve More.
