Keep Digging Deep

Had just spent the past 2 hours on this film, Camp X Ray (2014), which is meant to send out a message on the infamous Guantanamo Bay. I had seen this trailer in 2014 and remember placing it on my Movies 'To-Watch' list, but I never quite got to it - perhaps partly fuelled by the assumption that Kristen Stewart and the possibility of an accurate reflection of life in Gitmo would not bode well for a satisfying post-film reaction. Indeed it was difficult, having been in the military before myself, and feeling skeptical about the certain loopholes in security in what must be a closely-watched detention camp, each time things got dramatic as the film progressed. Nevertheless, in spite of the inaccuracies, a message was successfully sent - one about the morality of right and wrong, and the complexity that stems from the simple word 'freedom'. I used to easily lose sight of the importance of understanding international relations, terrorism, extremism, policy and the like, leaving me in peaks and troughs in regard to my interest over such matters - only recently I figured that it may not be because politics or governance in themselves were important. It's actually Philosophy and the philosophy behind each and every one of these sciences. And it's that fundamental - that 'why' at the very core - be it reason or dare I say revelation - about humanity that only gives sense and sensibility to everything else that comes after. And so if we are blessed to be able to think as deeply as we can, then think as deeply as deeply as deeply as you can.

And it's that fundamental - that 'why' at the very core - be it reason or dare I say revelation - about humanity that only gives sense and sensibility to everything else that comes after.

I may be officially enrolled into but two courses on history, religion, and modern middle eastern studies, but it does feel like I am engaging beyond the range of that. For instance, I had spent a fair amount of lunch time hours listening to how the Human Rights classes can often end on a depressing note when 'this problem seems like it really can't be solved'. But there's also this understanding that soon this cannot be the main agenda of the days - and you have to go out into the world.
