Does Your Team Celebrate Year Round?
During the holiday season, we give thanks and celebrate with our families, friends and coworkers. If you want to build a close-knit family culture at work, you should bring that gratitude and celebration to your employees all year round.
There are so many great reasons to celebrate and recognize your team at work. When we started our business, we made celebrations a key element of our weekly company meetings. We celebrated and welcomed each new employee and introduced every newcomer to the entire staff.
We celebrated promotions and the accomplishments that led to those promotions. Because we valued staff continuity and loyalty, we celebrated work anniversaries with small spot bonuses and we made special note of 5-year and 10-year anniversaries with the company.
We loved to celebrate important family news from our team members, so we announced and celebrated employee birthdays, weddings and birth announcements. We hosted birthday parties, bridal showers and baby showers with impromptu cakes or champagne toasts.
We shared condolences when parents and grandparents of our staff passed away, and after more than 20 years in business, we also had the somber duty of celebrating the lives of our partners who departed us. Families have to face comings and goings, and so do companies.
You can also plan office celebrations for holidays – such as Halloween or Christmas or Independence Day or whatever holidays are important to your employees – to brighten the spirits and energy of your team. We enjoyed having parties for the Super Bowl and the Oscars and for movie premieres. There are so many reasons to celebrate throughout the year.
If you celebrate your employees and their lives year-round, then you can build a family culture at your company too.
Wishing you and your business a happy and prosperous New Year!
