Keep Calm and Don't Get Phished!!

We’re all savvy in this digital age, right? But even the sharpest pros, including me, can fall for some slippery phishing schemes. The days of obvious "prince-from-another-country" emails are over—now scammers are getting pretty creative. Here’s how to keep your digital ID safe without sounding like a broken firewall.

1. The "Fake HR Reach-Out"

That dreamy “Head of Talent” slides into your DMs with a job that sounds tailor-made for you. They flatter, they charm… and before you know it, they’re requesting your personal info “just to verify.” Pro tip: Real HR doesn’t usually ask for your social security number over DM!

?2. The AI Video Call

This is my favorite, and it recently happened to me! Imagine getting a video call, and there’s a talking face that looks like your friend, boss, or some famous industry speaker! But…they’re moving a bit weirdly, and the conversation is, uh, robotic? Congratulations, you’ve been baited by a “deepfake” phishing call! If a friend calls you and suddenly asks for your credit card details or the company’s AWS login, hang up. Probably an imposter.

?3. LinkedIn Scams: "Let's Collaborate!"

These are the "let's collab" invites with links to “files” or “demos” of a “great project we should do together.” Spoiler alert: there’s no project. If someone you don’t know well sends you a link to a mystery doc—treat it like it’s radioactive.

?4. "Gift Card Giveaways"

This one’s like the workplace phishing classic: “Hi, it’s [your boss]. Can you send me three Amazon gift cards, each worth $100?” If your boss wanted Amazon cards, they'd probably just ask in person… right? (And if they did ask in person, still question it!)

?Tips to Outsmart the Phishers

  • Hover, Don’t Click: If you’re on email or LinkedIn, hover over links first to see the URL. If it looks like a random code or has loads of weird numbers, don’t touch it.
  • Use Two-Factor Auth Like a Boss: 2FA is the digital equivalent of double-locking your door. Trust me, it’s worth it.
  • Keep Your Privacy Tight: Regularly update those privacy settings on your social platforms. The less public info about you, the harder it is to mimic you.

Stay smart, stay skeptical, and remember: If something seems too good (or weird) to be true, it probably is. Keep your digital life safe, so we can all keep laughing at these AI face filters for a long time to come!
