Balancing content creation with relationship-building on LinkedIn can feel tricky, but it doesn’t have to be! Here are my thoughts on how to succeed:
1 - Share Great Content
Start by creating content that adds value. Think about what your audience would find helpful or interesting. Whether it’s tips, insights, or resources, make sure it’s something people can use. This way, you’ll attract the right connections who appreciate what you bring to the table.
I believe all LinkedIn content should fall into one of three categories, Educational, Informational or Inspirational.
Get Engaged
Don’t just post and ghost! Spend a little time each day scrolling through your feed and engaging with others. Leave thoughtful comments, join discussions, and show genuine interest in what your connections are sharing. This interaction is key to building those meaningful relationships.
Make sure your profile is optimised first, especially your 'Headline' as it will show along with any comments posted.
Be Yourself
Authenticity goes a long way. Share your unique thoughts and experiences—people love to connect with real individuals! Plus, don’t hesitate to support others by sharing their content or giving them a shout-out. It’s all about building that community vibe.
You will often hear others referring to B2B (Business to Business) or B2C (Business to Consumer) but remember that behind every LinkedIn profile is a real person, in my opinion, that makes LinkedIn P2P (Person to Person).

Time Management is Key
To keep everything balanced, try using a calendar or some time management tools. Schedule specific times for creating content and for engaging with others. This way, you won’t feel overwhelmed, and you’ll make sure you’re giving both areas the attention they need.

Think Long-Term
Remember, building relationships takes time. Focus on making genuine connections rather than rushing for sales. When you invest in these relationships, you’ll see the benefits in the long run.
My opening line for almost all my LinkedIn teaching is stressing that LinkedIn is a 'Slow Burn' NOT a 'Magic Bullet'.
Communicate Openly
When you’re collaborating or connecting with others, keep the lines of communication open. Be clear about what you’re looking for and be respectful of everyone’s time. Celebrate wins together—it makes the journey more enjoyable! By following these tips, you’ll hopefully find a balance between sharing your expertise and building awesome relationships on LinkedIn.
