KD's Pan-American Trek #7: Central Montana

KD's Pan-American Trek #7: Central Montana

We're heading south down the center of Montana on my Pan-America Trek using Google Street View. Central Montana is a land of big skies and small towns. It was here I began to realize that the agricultural sector had not died, per se, but rather it needed a whole lot less people to make it click.

We go through Lewistown, of population 5900, locale of a gold rush in the 1880's.

Wall art in downtown Lewistown. Did Montana really look like this?

Panorama of downtown - more empty than not.

Beautiful sights on the virtual drive through Fergus County.

Grass Range is a town of about 100.

Next we virtually drive through Roundup, as the name suggests, was the place where local cattle farmers would bring their herd to market. This image below is a good example a the type of scene that caught my eye - a good composition of a simple structure whose aging has created interesting textures, and a surrounding that is both naturally (fall colors) and sociologically (RV in yard, US flag) interesting.

I love the entrepreneurial spirit embodied by MBK Unlimited - buy, sell, trade, and pawn, surplus bargains, guns and goodies, and of course, live bait.

In neighboring Klein, Montana, a cemetery of the United Mine Workers of America.

Finally, some more roadside attractions as we head towards Billings, Montana.
