KD's Pan-American Trek #3: Northwestern Canada
We continue on my virtual Pan-American Trek using Google Street View. We started in northern Alaska and moved through the Yukon to our current segment through northwestern Canada. The picture above is in New Hazelton, British Columbia - it was the first of many, many times that we will see people acknowledging, and sometimes performing for, the Google Street View car.
British Columbia is a vast territory of significant beauty. Small towns and farms dot the road as we head south. Below is a typical view showing the gorgeous Rocky Mountains, from Houston, BC.
The Dease Lake Highway (Hwy 37) follows water much of the way. It looks cold!
We continue south on the Yellowhead Highway (Canada 16).
This next photo is one of my favorites of the whole trek. A jewel of an image that was waiting to be discovered.
I like the panorama below because it captures the Google Street View movement controllers. This is my virtual gasoline pedal to get from one point to another and from one camera perspective to another. On a highway, each mouse click took me about 15m further down the road.
I didn't realize it at the time, but as we continue south, churches will become a significant theme in our trek. This is the first that captured by eye, of the historic St. Stephen's Anglican Church, now Mt. Zion Lutheran, in Telkwa, British Columbia, built in 1910.
A little further south in McBride, we get a more modern evangelism.
You have to tip your hat to Mother Nature for artistic achievement in Canada. Here we cross the Fraser River, with the grand Mount Robson is in the background.
This is the Yellowhead Highway (Canada 16) at Moose Lake, near Fraser-Fort George, looking into the Mount Terry Fox Provincial Park.
Finally we have crossed British Columbia and reached Jasper, Alberta. We've already gone 4400 km, although our progress will slow considerably as we head further south and hit more and more towns, and eventually, cities. I found this overlay of words in this view somewhat poignant.
