KD's Pan-American Trek #28: Tierra del Fuego

KD's Pan-American Trek #28: Tierra del Fuego

I started my virtual Pan-American Trek using using Google Street View on August 24, 2013 in Deadhorse, Alaska, U.S., and 1 year, 7 months, and 19 days later (May 25, 2015) ended in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. I traveled continuously down highways and roads, only skipping Central America and Ecuador where there is no GSV. The total virtual distance travelled from Deadhorse to Ushuaia was 21,700 km (13,020 mi).

As we head out of Buenos Aires down the Argentina coast, we see several landmarks reminding us of the military nature of coastlines.

The southernmost part of Argentina is Tierra del Fuego, a wild and wildly varied land that has captured the mind and soul of many travelers. Northern and central Tierra del Fuego contain many open plains and big skies.

Crossing into southern Tierra del Fuego, the landscape becomes very dramatic and grand.

Lake at the end of the world... Lago Escondido...

Finally we come to the end of the Trek, in the port town of Ushuaia.

The formal end of the Pan-American Highway. For a 21,000 km "road", I thought there would be more fanfare!

Ushuaia has a nice downtown, adorable houses, a glorious bay, and snow lodges just up the road.

As far as I can tell, this image represents the furthest south that Google Street View traveled in the Americas.

As reference, here's the northernmost picture in Google Street View, where we started.

I'll wrap up this Trek with some insights gain in my next post, Polaroid images, and talk about my next virtual "World Trek".
