Spring has sprung! And the Easter bunny is not far away!
And just like the Easter Bunny we are hopping into the action with some sweet treats for you.
With that in mind, what could be sweeter than a brand new job with an amazing salary?
The question is - What is an amazing salary?
Salaries - How to establish what’s good
We have some amazing clients!
And what happens is that we also get more amazing clients on board.
One of the best ways we can tell if a client is amazing? If they ask us questions about how to
improve their recruitment and retention.
One of the biggest hot topics for this is “What is an amazing salary?”
Now this is a hard question to answer in only a few sentences but the best one we could
think of is this:
What is that person worth to you and your business?
This can be hard to quantify properly but it’s a good place to start thinking about how much
they can properly contribute to your business and can help you lay out the expectations you
have of them.
If you are still really stuck then there are plenty of “salary benchmarking” guides but we find
the most up-to-date ones are found here: https://www.reed.com/tools/uk-salary-guide-2024
What’s great about these is they not only give an industry-by-industry breakdown but also
role-by-role across which part of the country you’re in.
As a result, you will be able to understand better, benchmark, and work with your recruiters
in sourcing quality, effective, people.
But remember, at the end of the day it is all about how much that person is worth to your
business.
Keeping the positive news going.
If you think money is everything, you would be very much mistaken!
There are so many factors that come into recruitment. There are so many more factors
involved.
In general, though, demand for workers has improved these first two months of 2024.
According to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, there were more than
870,000 new job postings in January 2024, meaning there are more than 1.8 million active
job postings in the UK.
This is good news with a bounce back in demand for workers in some white-collar and blue-
collar jobs.
This however is to be expected after the surge of hiring post-pandemic but overall things,
whilst calming down, are still looking positive.
Nevertheless, with inflation and cost of living there will be questions in candidate's minds
about “What's it like out there? Is it easy to find a job? Are people hiring?”.
Make sure you provide that reassurance of hiring and investing in your people, paying them
what they are worth, and letting them know it is still easy to find an amazing job with you.
And always, if you are in any doubt, or need any advice, then you can always ask us.

Make Recruitment Prosperous
The UK jobs market has been remarkably resilient, but shortages, technological changes,
skills shortfalls and lack of support for workers all hold British businesses back.
All of this means that workers’ pay, the government’s tax take, productivity, performance,
and the economy suffer.

HMRC Name and Shame
A total of 524 businesses across all industry sectors were ‘named and shamed’ in the
announcement for failing to pay over 172,000 workers NMW. The businesses have been
ordered to repay workers nearly £16m, plus an additional financial penalty, after the
breaches left the workers out of pocket.
The action comes as the National Living Wage is set to increase by 9.8% to £11.44 an hour
on 1 April, as announced in November’s Autumn statement.
Named employers included major high street brands such as Greggs, Easyjet, Currys, and
luxury department store Harrods.

Launch DEI from Day 1
Creating a sense of belonging at work is not just a feel-good sentiment. It’s definitely not a
box-ticking exercise.
It’s a powerful driver of high productivity and employee satisfaction. However, this sense of
belonging often wanes when employees report inconsistent experiences, particularly during
the hiring and talent management phases.
From hiring to exit interviews, business leaders must recognize the need for approaches that
are tailored to the diverse needs of their workforce if they want to foster a culture of equity
and inclusion throughout the entire employee journey.
