Crossroads Artboards Artists Announced

The artists for Charlotte Street ’s 2025-2026 Crossroads Artboards have been selected. The Crossroads Artboards program, which began in 2008, captures “the creative spirit of the Crossroads neighborhood while serving as an alternative platform for contemporary art,” stated the announcement.?

Eight artists, selected by jury, will create commissioned work displayed on the Artboards for three months. The dual billboards are double sided, allowing two works to be displayed at a time along Southwest Boulevard in the Crossroads Arts District. More than 100 Kansas City-based artists have created work specifically for this endeavor, supported in part by the Crossroads Community Association and the Mid-America Arts Alliance . They are:

Studios Inc Admits Two New Artists to its Residency Program

Studios Inc has announced the addition of two new artists to its 2025-2028 Studios Inc Artist Residency Program. Melanie Johnson and Armin Mühsam will join continuing residents Kate Clements, JT Daniels , Hadley Clark , Leon Jones, Casey Whittier and @Caleb Taylor, as Harold Smith and 春红 Hong Zhang张 conclude their three-year residencies.

Johnson, a professor of painting and drawing at University of Central Missouri , is known for large-scale charcoal drawings that recall sensory and emotional connections to animals and the natural landscape, according to the release.

Mühsam, a professor of painting at Northwest Missouri State University, received a POLLOCK-KRASNER FOUNDATION Grant in 2014 and has mounted nearly 60 solo exhibitions in the United States, Germany, France, Romania, and Hungary. He is represented by Haw Contemporary in Kansas City.

The Studios Inc Artist Residency Program awards mid-career artists with a spacious studio at its East Crossroads location at 1708 Campbell St. for three years. Artist residents also benefit from the Studios Patron Program, which connects artists directly with a patron, and each receives a solo exhibition in the Studios Inc gallery. All the resident artists participate in an annual group residency exhibition held each spring. — Alice Thorson
