Do you know who invented the sub-routine in computing? Depending on which article you read it will either say Kay or John Mauchly or another person entirely. If you read more deeply into the records as Kathy Kleinman did you may find that it was Kay. In fact, the story of how she came up with the idea is well substantiated. You should decide for yourself.
Oh, I know, I know, I know, We can use a master programmer to repeat code - Kay
I had a wonderful opportunity to meet Kay's daughter Gini Mauchly Calcerano. Gini took time out of her busy schedule to speak about Kay and life and works. It was interesting to hear how Kay focused on her family whilst she worked. She was a modest lady and loved her family deeply.
Kay has a very interesting life story from a wonderfully rural life in Creeslough, to her friend Grace Kelly, to her mathematical prowess, inventions and family life. She is certainly someone I think we would all like to know more about.
Kay is honoured in Creeslough but previously she has been honoured in the Atlantic Technological University (ATU) or LYIT as it was then. The ATU Letterkenny have a perpetual medal in computing in her honour. We also have our great teaching facility the Kay McNulty data center.
