Kawai K-300 Player Piano Build

Kawai K-300 Player Piano Build

Over the past two weeks I have been building the next level in Acoustic Player / Digital Pianos. This will involve fitting the new PianoDisc Prodigy II system to a new Kawai K-300 Aures 2 piano. After uncrating the piano the panels were removed to enable proper planning of the build. The Aures 2 electronics and upright action were removed from the piano which then permitted the keybed removal.

With the Keybed out and supported the full piano harp can be seen. Visible on the spruce soundboard are the transducers that will be used to play the backing recordings from the Prodigy II.

Our main modification is to machine the Keybed to enable 88 Solenoids to be positioned under the ends of the spruce keys. Shown below is the modified keybed that now allows solenoids to be positioned under the ends of the 88 keys.

The solenoid rails are now cut to length and the individual solenoids are secured in place.

From Acoustic >> Digital to Acoustic >> Electro Mechanical back to Acoustic .

Now we will secure the rails to the underside of the keybed and align the solenoids to the underside of the keys.

Next we connect all the 88 key solenoids to the PianoDisc HD SilentDrive Boards as well as the new pedal solenoid that has been built into the damper actuating rod.

After "burning in" the electronics overnight everything has settled in and the piano is playing beautifully.
