Katoni Bike Month Challenge 2023
Katoni Engineering
Consultancy, engineering, design, emissions reduction… and always keeping promises
In an effort to get the people of Katoni to use active transport more often, and to promote environmental and personal health, our wonderful team of engineers took part in the Love To Ride ‘Bike Month Challenge’, beginning on the 1st of May all the way through until the 31st.
?
Callum Wallace, one of our Senior Structural Designers, coordinated the challenge and played a big role in keeping our participants motivated to get onto two wheels and more importantly - to keep doing so. To say it was a success would be to criminally understate the shift put in by our team. Katoni had a participation rate of 30%, with an encouraging 18 members of staff getting stuck in to the challenge. Collectively, they cycled a whopping 2,837 miles! Not only did this secure first place for us in three different categories;
?
-?????????Scotland (50-199 staff)
-?????????Aberdeen City & Shire (50-199 staff)
-?????????Oil, Gas and Mining Industry in Aberdeen City & Shire (50-199 staff)
?
this also slingshotted us to an impressive 7th place finish overall for the whole of Scotland, regardless of company size! For a company with a workforce of 46 employees, this is an amazing achievement and a real testament to the drive and commitment of our family here at Katoni.

In cycling our 2,837 miles, we can proudly share that we saved 495lbs of CO2 emissions which, as a company trying to contribute to the energy transition where we can, is another statistic we can be proud of and one that highlights our dedication to emissions reduction and promoting a greener future.

Focusing on the competition within Katoni, the winner was Chris Walker, our Principal E&I Designer. Chris amassed an inspiring 670 points, cycling 470 miles throughout the month. Coming in at second place was Pete Abernethy, our Head of Projects – covering 397 miles which earned Edinburgh's Lance Armstrong a total of 587 points. Taking bronze was our Principal E&I Engineer, Graham Robson, travelling a noble 292 miles upon his trusty steed.

Overall, the Bike Month Challenge has been a resounding success, with all due credit to the remarkable efforts of our team. Their determination, perseverance and collective effort have propelled us toward smashing our goals and promoting a healthier lifestyle. Congratulations to all participants for their outstanding commitment and as always - getting the job done! We look forward to embracing new challenges and continuing to inspire and push ourselves in future.
