IN EVERY LIFE, THERE ARE TWO FORCES AT WORK ALL THE TIME...
God is heavenly Father as well as Divine Mother. In the picture above, God appears as Ardha-Narishwar. As Father, He has created us and has allowed His Maya (Cosmic Delusion) to take us away from Him (centrifugal force), where we can use our free will in this play of creation. He wants to see whether we would seek Him, or seek and enjoy His gifts of Maya thoughtlessly. He has created the immutable laws of karma to discipline us. When we abuse our free will and do something wrong, He does not punish us; according to the karmic laws, we punish ourselves. One life is too short to redeem all karma, so sometimes we suffer in this life because of past lives' karma. If you think that is unfair, think of sudden good luck and unexpected good fortune that comes in this life, at birth or later, because of good karma in the past lives.
As Divine Mother, God is love and compassion. She knows how hard it is to gain deliverance from this delusion, so She gives us all Her unconditional love, compassion and guidance through our conscience - the inner voice; She is trying to draw us back to Her. This force is centripetal, as against centrifugal earlier. This drawing force is the same as the earthly mother's love, but in a much vaster and purer sense. It is Her love that shines through the Sun giving us warmth and life, it comes as rain to nourish us, it digests our food, beats our hearts, and heals our wounded bodies. It is Her love that is reflected in human relationships - each mother's love for the baby, and all other kinds.
Whether on the spiritual path, or on the material, nothing happens by chance. Only these two forces work (as integral parts of a benign cosmic plan): our karma that evokes Divine justice from God’s role as Heavenly Father, and our devotion that evokes Divine mercy, forgiveness and grace, from God’s role as endlessly compassionate Divine Mother, as mentioned above. As children, in our homes, we needed both discipline and love - the former alone could harden and embitter us, the latter alone could spoil us. We need a balance. So, we all have had two parents - a father and a mother.
If you are currently suffering, have a heart, and have patience. You are repaying and getting freedom from some karmic debt. If you are enjoying good fortune, pause and think! You are encashing and depleting some 'cheques' of good karma with the karmic bank, so make sure to create more good karma for future.
Eventually, doing good deeds without desire for their fruits, and offering every karmic fruit back unto God (Nishkam karma), we free ourselves from all karmic bonds.
