Karma always catches up

For context : This story is set in a time when there was Sati pratha in India. Sati pratha is a hindu ritual in which a widow sacrifices her life by sitting atop her deceased husband's funeral pyre.

Now it's story time.

In a village, there were two brothers. Let's call them - Akshay and Sarvesh. Akshay was married, Sarvesh wasn't.

Once Sarvesh fell ill. Akshay, along with his wife, decided to visit a doctor and ask for a slow poison instead of a medicine. This was to ensure Sarvesh dies but no one should know Akshay did it.

Why?

Akshay wanted to keep entire family wealth on his own. If anything happens to Sarvesh, everything will stay with Akshay.

Akshay eventually died.

Now, after some years a son is born to Akshay and his wife. They name him Luv. However, Luv was almost always unwell since birth. Akshay had to visit multiple doctors for Luv.

As Luv grows, he isn't cured. With the hope that marriage will make him better, he gets married. However he is still the same. Akshay had spent almost all of his wealth on Luv's health but to no avail.

One night, Luv was very unwell. Akshay decides to sleep with Luv to take care of him. Suddenly he hears Luv calls out in his sleep "Brother, it is time for me to leave".

Akshay gets shocked thinking why is Luv calling him brother. However he ignores thinking maybe Luv isn't well and seeing some dream.

But Luv continues.

"I came to take my share back. You shouldn't have poisoned me. I was your Sarvesh".

Now Akshay is shocked and in tears. Luv continues.

"Now that I had to come back, I am taking your share too."

Now Akshay screams, "Now, Akshay screams, 'If you came back for us, I can understand, but what wrong did your wife do? Why did you torture her so much?"

To wish Luv continues, "She is no one else but the doctor who gave you poison to kill me. Once I die and she will have to go through Sati pratha, she will realise the burning sensation I had because of that poison every day".

And Luv dies. Leaving Akshay in tears and repentance.

"As you sow, so shall you reap."

...

My mom narrated this story to me yesterday, trying to teach me how powerful Karma is. How we get more of what we give. In the story, Akshay took Sarvesh's half but had to spend all of his money in Luv's health plus the pain of seeing your son's suffering.

I don't know why I had goose bumps while listening to the story but I shall remember this always.

How do our actions today shape the legacy we leave behind?

This article is my attempt to preserve these stories for myself and for others who might just want to learn the valuable lessons.

As we navigate the complexities of our professional and personal lives, stories like these remind us of the profound impact our actions have on our fate and the world around us. They encourage us to lead with empathy, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility towards others.

I invite you to reflect on this story and its implications in our lives.

How do we ensure that our actions today contribute to a legacy of positivity and integrity? How can we apply the principle of karma to foster a more ethical, compassionate professional world?
