The Bitcoin Conference 2022: This week, the Bitcoin world converged on Miami Beach to participate in the 2022 Bitcoin Conference. It was the largest Bitcoin event in history and featured all the big names in the space—Michael Saylor, Jack Mallers, Saifedean Ammous, Eric Weinstein, Adam Back, and many more. The talks, which were all streamed live on Youtube, covered all aspects of Bitcoin, from the latest technological advancements and financial empowerment to Bitcoin’s counterculture relevance and influence in the world. You can catch all the presentations and panel discussions on the Bitcoin Magazine Youtube channel here.
Tesla, Block, and Blockstream team up to mine bitcoin off solar power in Texas: Adam Back’s Bitcoin company Blockstream and Jack Dorsey’s digital payments firm Block (formerly known as Square) will utilize Tesla's Megapack tech for a new solar and battery-powered Bitcoin mining facility. The $12 million pilot off-grid mining center will feature 3.8 megawatts of renewable solar power, 12 megawatts-hour of battery storage, and 30 petahashes (PH/s) per second of mining hashrate. The batteries will be used to power mining at night and at times when sunlight varies during the day. Adam Back announced the plan during the Bitcoin conference and said they plan to publish all the raw data to increase transparency and foster open discussion about the viability of mining via solar energy. In other bitcoin mining-related news, chip giant Intel announced a new mining chip: The 2nd generation bitcoin mining chip, Blockscale ASIC, will begin shipping in Q3 2022 and is expected to be more energy-efficient than Intel’s first chip, the Bonanza Mine.
