KALAI - The social initiative to bridge the skill gap by connecting the students in need of skill with the mentor's eager to contribute to the society had the first seed sown on 30th April 2024, the first step towards creating an garden of knowledge and sharing

The first initiative was an opportunity to speak to the students of the Parvathy's Arts and Science College, Dindugal, Tamil Nadu. Grateful to the management of the college for providing the opportunity to kick start the social initiative in their college.

The hot and humid afternoon did not deter the students attention and they participated with full enthusiasm. The students were all ears to the story telling and how they can work towards getting into the industry. There is talent available, but the challenge is identifying and moulding them, we often focus much on communication and other factors and ignore the talent. Yes, communication is important and non negotiable, but it can be trainable.

During the session, I had to change my language of delivery and change the story and the characters to suit the audience, we need to be flexible in our approach to hire and train the talented students and not just focus on communication

Some of the students right from their year 1 have started to work on multiple projects like Web development, App, etc. The wanted to overcome their locational and language challenge and be ready for the job in the corporate world

The session was motivating for me as well, as I could see the passion and enthusiasm to overcome the hurdles and create a name for themselves in the corporate world. Some of their questions were thought provoking

1. How can large organization support the students studying in Tier 2 and 3 cities.
2. Why does the large organization focus on communication and what help can they provide to the students from the Tier 2 and 3 cities
3. We are eager to work on projects to learn and explore - how can we approach the companies
4. Students studying Arts are usually not able to join IT related jobs, what should we do to get selected for the jobs, we are ready to learn and do equip with knowledge
5. ......

Some of the students were so passionate and wanted to know what should they do in order to be part of the selection in 2025+ in the large companies hire for Graduates.

A single tree does not make a forest, but it important we start with one and create the environment to plant many trees and then in few years we have the forest. Many of you have the intent, please give us 1 hour of your time and help in the growth of the knowledge
