This Sunday headed to manish market to buy some clothes for a trip planned in this month, so after buying came out and decided to have a smoke, was close to a gurudwara and this elderly Sardarji had finished offering his prayers and was hailing a rickshaw, the ricks in Mumbai can be mean and rude with disregard for a senior citizen, I guessed he wanted to go a short distance as many a ricks stopped but none wanted to go. The meek Sardarji was very old and frail with chilblains on his feet and shivering hands due to age.
I do not know what was running through my head at that time but stubbed the cigarette and headed towards this man. I asked him uncleji kya hum apko lift de sakthe hai, he said nahi beta hum manage kar lenge. So I head towards my activa and go up to this man and say “ uncleji baito “ and he sits. He had to go like 10 blocks away. On the way I could hear him saying something in Punjabi ending with wahe guru wahe guru. We reached his destination and as he got off he put his hand on my head and said something in Punjabi the next part I hold very close to my heart – the Elderly gentlemen removed his kada from his hand and gave it to me and said – I know your not Sikh but this is for your help thank you. I said uncleji there is no need but he held my hand and said “this kada is for you to do more good”. I stood still and my eyes had tears developing. After saying that he walked into his building, It took me like 10 mins to gather myself and understand what really happened.
