Kabosu, The 'Doge' Meme Dog Has Passed Away at 18 Years of Age.

The world bids farewell to Kabosu, the Shiba Inu who inspired the globally renowned "Doge" meme. Kabosu's owner, Atsuko Sato, shared the sad news in a heartfelt blog post, revealing that Kabosu passed away peacefully in her sleep. Sato expressed her gratitude to the legions of fans who adored the famous dog, saying, "She quietly passed away as if asleep while I caressed her."

A farewell party is scheduled for Sunday at Flower Kaori in Kotsu no Mori, Narita City, from 1 pm to 4 pm, as reported by the Times of India.

Kabosu's journey to internet stardom began on February 13, 2010, when Sato, a Japanese kindergarten teacher, posted several photos of her adopted Shiba Inu on her personal blog. Among these was a picture of Kabosu lounging on a couch, gazing sideways at the camera with her eyebrows raised—an image that quickly went viral.

The term "Doge" originated from a misspelled word in a 2005 episode of Homestar Runner's puppet program, and it soon became synonymous with Kabosu's image.

In December 2013, tech news site The Verge identified Sato's Kabosu as the original Shiba Inu featured in the "Doge" meme. The article also highlighted 'Suki,' another Shiba Inu belonging to San Francisco-based photographer Jonathan Fleming, as the dog wearing a scarf in another popular meme variation.
