K2HV Year End Update

Happy New Year!

A quick update on K2 HealthVentures (K2HV) as we head into a new year.

K2HV continued our great momentum during 2023, as we increased our level of new capital commitments to the life sciences and healthcare industries and partnered to support companies in our existing portfolio. In our ~5 years since inception we have now surpassed $1.5 billion in debt, convertible debt, and equity capital commitments to 35 life science and healthcare companies (with 11 of these having exited).

A volatile macro-economic backdrop including high interest rates, the collapse of several regional banks, and ongoing headwinds for public equities brought widespread challenges throughout the year, but also created an unprecedented volume of investment opportunities across the industry. New additions to the K2HV portfolio in the last year included: 89Bio, Alignment Healthcare, Harpoon Therapeutics, Dialyze Direct, Vedanta Biosciences, Spark Pediatrics, LetsGetChecked, Mind Medicine, Longevity Health, and Acumen Pharmaceuticals. We have also continued to grow our top-notch team, with six talented new individuals joining us in the last year across our investment, legal, and finance teams. View our full team to learn more.

At K2HV, we are driven by dual goals of Profit and Purpose, and thus we have set aside a percentage of our profits to fund a philanthropic mission focused on addressing underserved needs in healthcare. A key achievement for our team this past year was the operationalization and launch of our K2 Foundation, created to support select non-profit partners and beneficiaries. So far, we have made substantial grants to four organizations working in both the USA and in 30 other countries: Muso, Seva, Water for People, and JVS.
